Crawford Development
CRAWFORD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT REACHES PRACTICAL COMPLETION
September 2025 – August 2026
In September 2025, the corner of Lawson Road and Jan Smuts Drive in Athlone was a construction site. Plans were being interpreted, foundations were being formed and a long road lay ahead for the teams responsible for turning a vision into reality.
Today, 28 August 2026, we reach Practical Completion.
And what stands before us is something very different.
A contemporary mixed-use development with a beautiful contemporary, modern-vernacular style, bringing together retail and residential living in the heart of Crawford — with the mountains rising behind it as a reminder of just how special this part of Cape Town really is.

For Petrus Theart, our Contract Manager, and William Benjamin, our Site Manager, the past year has been one of those projects that demands everything from a team. There were days when multiple trades, deliveries, installations, inspections, decisions and deadlines seemed to arrive at the same time.
Appreciation & Grattitude
Your work is visible in the walls, the finishes, the services, the details and ultimately in the building standing here today.
Different kind of Destination

The apartments themselves bring something special..Elevated above the activity below, they look out across the established neighbourhood towards the mountains — giving residents a view that changes with the light, the weather and the seasons. It is a combination of home, convenience and connection.
Everyday essentials close by.
Your home above.
And the mountain landscape stretching out beyond it.
Groceries downstairs.

Like many developments introduced into an established community, Crawford's journey was not without conversation, concern and differing views about how the area should evolve. Community objections included concerns around traffic, noise, scale and the changing character of the predominantly residential surroundings. The development ultimately progressed through the City's land-use process.
Today, that conversation takes on a different meaning.
The development is no longer a proposal on paper.
It is no longer a construction site behind fencing.
It is open.
The lights are on.
The doors are open.
People are moving through the building.
And Crawford has officially entered its next chapter.
And now, we let the building breathe.
Practical Completion does not mean everything stops.
There are still final snags to close out.
There is landscaping to establish.
There are finishes to settle into their surroundings.
And there is the inevitable transition from a busy construction site into a place that simply becomes part of everyday life.
Soon, the sounds of construction will be replaced by the sounds of a community going about its day.
Residents coming home.
Customers doing their shopping.
People meeting.
Businesses opening.
Children and families moving through the area.
And, hopefully, in time, the development will no longer feel like the new building.
It will simply feel like Crawford.
